An vision for Karosta:
As an old military port
We created a large black water mirror throughout the intervention terrain in analogy to its old military port. The past should not be forgotten. It will be preserved and remembered.
We docked two large buildings/ships on the sides of the intervention terrain. We endowed them with a multipurpose cultural center program and created two islands with large trees because life needs spaces for celebration and meditation.
The building is separated from the water so that it is not stuck in the past, but rather facing the future.
The slatted transparency allows us to perceive the proximity or distance of the volume, which creates a tense relationship between the metallic skin of our buildings/vases and the interior volume.
