Sete Casas

Vila do Conde, Portugal
Project Description

Sete Casas

The Sete Casas subdivision in Vila do Conde is located in a predominantly residential area. The overall objective of the proposal is to consolidate the urban fabric as outlined in the urban development plan for the area.

The topography of the sloping site allowed for the creation of a small access ramp outside each house to overcome the differences in elevation. At the most challenging point, the elevation difference reaches 6.60 m. The façade design now exhibits a different rhythm of openings compared to the original scheme. The elevation is defined by spans of 0.90 m for openings and 1.80 m for sliding elements, distributed across two floors above street level and one floor below.

The garden area along the main façade is slightly recessed to ensure adequate ventilation and natural lighting for each independent unit. External access is provided directly from the sidewalk, leading straight to a distribution hall, which is also accessible via the common vehicular entrance.

On the entrance level, the layout comprises a combined living/dining room, a kitchen, a service toilet, circulation stairs, and the aforementioned distribution hall. The second floor is designated as the private zone, featuring three bedrooms and two toilets—one dedicated and one shared. The master bedroom includes a small balcony measuring 80 cm in depth.

Each unit features a private patio with grassy areas and is designed to include two native deciduous trees.
